Returns are close to close: the last close of a year against the last close of the year before. A series that starts mid-year is measured from its first close, and a year before a series exists is left blank. Stock and sector rows are price returns of exchange traded funds and leave out dividends, so they are a proxy for the index and its sectors. Crypto prices are aggregated market prices and can differ slightly between exchanges.
